Chadick Park to receive new playground equipment
New commercial playground equipment will soon be arriving at Chadick Park. Mel Priddy, Services Director for the McAlester Community said, "This is going to be a huge improvement.".
The McAlester City councilors unanimously agreed to a $81,000 park upgrade and awarded Miracle Recreation Equipment to suppy and installation of new playground equipment.
An additional $44,000 is allocated for on-site renovations. Total cost of the project is a shade from $125,000.
When the playground is complete, it will have the capacity of holding up to 125 children. The existing sand will be replaced with wood fiber chips that are up to safety regulations and meet the requirements of the American with Disabilities Act.
There will be play areas for children 5 to 12 and a special new playground area for children 2 to 5 years.
City officials hope to open the new playground by February, 2014 as the installation could take 4 to 6 weeks
